The Challenge

Enterprises adopting the cloud inherit a storage dilemma. Managed file services are fast but priced so that large datasets become cost-prohibitive. Object storage is affordable and effectively limitless — but it isn't a filesystem, so applications must be rewritten and data staged in and out.

At the same time, file (NAS) and block (SAN) live in separate products, and proprietary appliances lock data into a vendor's format. The result is duplicated infrastructure, runaway capacity bills, and data you don't fully control.

Benefits

  • File and block from one multiprotocol substrate
  • Unlimited capacity at object-storage economics
  • Active-active HA with enterprise ZFS data services
  • Runs in your own cloud — full data sovereignty
The Solution

MayaNAS resolves the dilemma with a single software-defined substrate. It presents standard file and block protocols — NFS, SMB with Active Directory, NVMe-oF, iSCSI, and parallel Lustre and pNFS — over one namespace, while placing bulk capacity directly on cloud object storage. Hot data and metadata stay on NVMe; everything scales on object storage at a fraction of managed-file cost.

It runs active-active for high availability, includes the full set of OpenZFS data services, and deploys entirely inside your own cloud account on any of the three major clouds — so your data, buckets, and keys never leave your control.

Use Cases

Enterprise File Shares & DR

Migrate on-premises or legacy cloud NAS. SMB-AD and NFS with active-active HA for business continuity.

AI/ML Data Pipelines

Training data, checkpoints, and inference cache on one substrate that keeps accelerators fed.

Media & Entertainment

High-throughput 4K/8K editing workflows with automatic archival of cold projects to object storage.

Life Sciences & Research

Genomics pipelines and imaging data — unlimited capacity for growing datasets, with enterprise reliability.

HPC & Technical Computing

Parallel-filesystem scale via Lustre and pNFS Flex Files, on cloud object storage, using standard clients.

Cloud NAS Migration

A clean path off legacy or software NAS — protocol parity plus object-storage economics.

Lower cost

Bulk capacity on object storage (~$0.02/GB) instead of premium managed file — scale to petabytes without repurchasing volumes.

No lock-in

Standards-based on the open Linux/OpenZFS stack. Standard NFS, SMB, and pNFS clients — nothing proprietary to install.

Your cloud

Deploys into your own account; data, buckets, and keys stay put — meeting data-residency and sovereignty needs.
